Acorn Biolabs

Acorn Biolabs is a regenerative medicine company founded by Dr. Drew Taylor in Toronto, Canada in 2017, offering non-invasive stem cell collection and cryopreservation.

It is the first company to market autologous stem cell regenerative treatments derived from the patients own hair follicle stem cells.

Acorn Biolabs is at the forefront of integrating regenerative medicine into everyday healthcare.

By providing individuals with the means to preserve their younger cells today, Acorn is paving the way for personalized treatments in aesthetics, orthopedics, and beyond, as regenerative therapies continue to evolve.

  • Non-Invasive Cell Collection: Acorn utilizes hair follicles as a rich source of stem cells. A trained technician collects approximately 50 follicles from the scalp’s sides and back, providing the necessary cells for preservation of autologous stem cells.
  • Cryopreservation: Post-collection, these cells undergo viability analysis and are cryogenically frozen at -196°C. This process halts aging effects, maintaining the cells’ youthful state for potential future use. The cryopreservation is stored at a specialized lab in  Toronto General Hospital.

Acorn has pioneered a new approach in leveraging hair follicle stem cells, a potent source of stem cells currently being studied in the medical aesthetic arena for both skin and hair therapies.

The company is also during research on the use of stem cell for various medical conditions for future regenerative therapies.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells with the unique ability to renew and develop into specialized cell types. They serve as the body’s repair system, replenishing damaged or aging tissues.

Typically stem cells can be derived from cord blood, human placenta, bone marrow and fat cells.

Deriving stem cells from these sources is more invasive and complex.

Look and feel incredible with our treatments.

Our Mission Is To Help You Look And Feel Your Best At Any Age!

Currently Acorn is conducting a multi-site, prospective, observational study evaluating the use of autologous hair follicle Secretome as an adjunct to medical aesthetic procedures for skin and hair treatments.

Exosomes are tiny vesicles (tiny sacs that transport material within and outside the cell) secreted by various cells in the body, including stem cells, biological fluids as well as skin cells. These nanosized particles play a crucial role in cell-to-cell communication and are packed with bioactive molecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. These tiny molecules carry genetic material from their cell of origin.

These tiny extracellular vesicles, also known as exosomes, are secreted by cells in the body and can be isolated and extracted using various methods. The choice of extraction method depends on the source of exosomes (e.g., cell culture, biological fluids) and the specific research or clinical application.

Secretomes refer to the collection of bioactive molecules secreted by cells.

They contain a blend of different size exosomes, growth factors, collagen, elastin, enzymes essential proteins, lipids, chemokines, cytokines, enzymes and nucleic acids.

The growth factors in these solutions contain 34 X the concentrations of growth factors found in PRP or platelet rich therapy. In the context of stem cell therapies, the Secretome is crucial because it contains factors that mediate many of the therapeutic benefits of stem cells—without needing to transplant whole cells.

A personalized Secretome is created by culturing the person’s own cells. This potent combination of a personalized Secrotomes will enhance the patient’s own natural cellular repair process, support the formation of the ECM or extracellular matrix thereby restoring the structure and strength to aging skin.

Currently the Secretomes are used in an observational cross North American observational study and are not for commercial use.

The Secretome’s activated stem cells release particles into a conditioned media.

The conditioned media is separated into vials and lyophilized for long term use.

The Secretomes are then applied topically on the skin and /or hair treatments post microneedling and /or post laser treatments.

Additional solutions are sent home with the patient to boost the skin recovery post procedure

  • Reduces post procedure downtime.
  • Reduces redness and swelling post procedure.
  • Promotes healing.
  • Reduces scarring.
  • Autologous: from you therefore no risk of rejection, inflammation or infection.
  • Completely biocompatible.

The future of autologous stem cell therapies is incredibly promising, driven by advancements in personalized medicine, gene editing, and biomanufacturing.

  • Using stem cell-derived exosomes instead of whole cells for safer, more effective treatments.
  • Potential applications in neurodegenerative diseases, cardiac repair, and immune modulation.
  •  Stem cell therapies targeting age-related degeneration (e.g., muscle loss, cognitive decline).
  •  Potential for rejuvenation and extending health span.

Clinique Antiaging is proud to be the first and only center in Quebec to collaborate with Acorn Biolabs for both the harvesting and collection of hair follicles for cryopreservation as well as being a clinical center for the research in aesthetic regenerative medicine.
