What causes a double chin?
A double chin is caused by multiple factors, with weight gain and diet being the main causes. Sometimes genetic factors are the culprit and no amount of diet and exercise will eliminate this extra fat. What is Belkyra™?
Belkyra™ is an injection using a substance called Deoxycholic acid. This acid is a bile acid that actually breaks down the fat cell into its components of free fatty acids and triglycerides. By injecting this substance into the area of fat under the chin, otherwise known as submental fat, it will gradually break down the fat in the region.
Does Belkyra™ work?
Yes it does. In fact, 80% of patients report satisfaction with their results. Several treatments may be required, usually between 2-4 t, but in some cases up to 6. Treatments are performed 6 weeks apart.
Does it hurt?
There can be mild discomfort and burning with the injections.
What are the side effects? What is the downtime?
There is swelling in the injected area for about a week. Bruising, pain and mild numbness can occur but these usually resolve.

Who is a good candidate?
This treatment is recommended for patients with mild to moderate fatty deposits under the chin. It does not replace surgery and is not indicated for chins with lots of extra loose skin. The cost of Belkyra injections varies according to the number of sessions required. A proper evaluation will help determine the approximate number of sessions needed. In some cases, Belkyra is not indicated for treatment of double chin. As it is impossible to predict the final result, follow-up consultations will be necessary.
