What’s new in Body Sculpting?
When it comes to body sculpting, not only do we address the fat and overlying skin, but we also need to target the underlying muscle.
Why muscle?
The human body is composed of approximately 25 % fat- 40 % muscle in males and approximately 35 % muscle in females. Treating the underlying muscle is crucial because it contributes to the general toning and contouring of the body. In addition to treating the fat and the skin, addressing the underlying muscle will give a more visually appealing aesthetic look.
What is Truculpt Flex?
TruSculpt® Flex is the latest non-invasive muscle sculpting technology that allows us to customize a treatment to both the patients’ needs and their body type.
What does Trusculpt Flex do?
TruSculpt® Flex is a non-invasive muscle sculpting machine designed to strengthen, firm up, and tone abdominal, buttocks, thigh, and arm muscles. Using electrical current, TruSculpt® flex improves muscle tone by inducing muscle contractions. It is a unique device because it can be customized based on the patient’s fitness level, shape, and goals.

How does Trusculpt ®Flex work?
TruSculpt® Flex provides three treatment modes with the help of the proprietary Multi-Directional Stimulation (MDS) technology. The three treatment modes include prep mode, tone mode, and sculpt mode and are based on the utilization of electric pulses of 3 different frequencies. The three treatment modes simulate different exercises and provide complete muscle stimulation. These modes include:
- Prep Mode: this mode creates twisting motions like those experienced during warm-up exercises. It involves stretching of the muscles and slowly building a tolerance to muscle contractions
- Tone Mode: this mode is like performing squats and involves contracting muscles until the point of exhaustion. This mode mimics strength training programs and results in increased strength and endurance
- Sculpt Mode: this mode is like performing crunches and involves fast, deep, sequential contractions of the muscles. This mode mimics muscle building programs involving the development of new muscle fibers and an increased muscle mass thus increasing the BMR (basal metabolic rate)
What areas can be treated?
TruSculpt® Flex allows treatment of up to 8 areas at the same time.
This device can treat the following muscle groups including the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and arms, more specifically the following muscles:
- rectus abdominal
- oblique muscles
- gluteal muscles
- quadriceps and hamstrings
- biceps and triceps
How does this technology compare to Emsculpt®?
Both body sculpting technologies stimulate muscle contractions through external stimulation, however, TruSculpt® Flex has a distinct advantage in terms of its specificity and flexibility.
Technologies like Emsculpt® use electromagnetic stimulation to induce muscle contractions, whereas TruSculpt® Flex utilizes direct electrical stimulation of the muscle groups.
During electromagnetic stimulation, a magnetic field is applied over the area of interest resulting in the activation of peripheral nerves that stimulate the muscles. Electromagnetic stimulation requires bulkier hardware and does not provide a focal stimulus in a controlled manner; therefore, it cannot target specific muscles.
TruSculpt® Flex on the other hand stimulates specific muscles by the placement of individual handpieces directly over the muscle group targeted. This machine also provides much better body coverage, allowing treatment of up to 8 areas at once compared to the maximum of 2 areas by treatments involving electromagnetic stimulation. The results are therefore more complete both physically and physiologically.
Does the treatment hurt?
As the treatment begins, patients feel a gentle contraction sensation and as the intensity slowly increases, the muscle contraction intensifies. TruSculpt® Flex treatments are not painful, non-invasive, non-surgical, and have virtually no recovery time.
What are the side effects?
Post-procedure, patients may notice tingling in the areas treated for up to a few hours and/or slight muscle soreness or tenderness for 24-72 hours.
Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
Most healthy men and women who want to improve their muscular tone can benefit from the treatments.
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) can help individuals exercise safely and effectively, leading them to burn a higher number of calories. EMS also promotes weight loss by building muscle, which in turn helps to boost your metabolism and burn fat.
This treatment can also be used in most muscle rehabilitations post injury. It can improve body core thus helping to alleviate back pain. It can also be used to treat muscle atrophy due to various illnesses.

How many treatments do I need?
Changes become visible after only 4 treatments of 45 minutes each with treatments spaced 48 hours apart. This results in improvement in muscle mass in a time-efficient and safe manner. While most patients can achieve remarkable results with as little as four sessions, others may require additional treatments to achieve more personalized results.
We recommend 4 treatments to start. Of course, maintenance and/or additional treatments may be desired or required depending on your personal condition. Needless to say, maintaining a healthy exercise regime is key to the success of the treatments.
