Noninvasive Hair Restoration Treatments
What is PRP?
PRP, otherwise known as Platelet Rich Plasma, is derived from whole blood after it has been centrifuged and separated into its different cellular components. PRP is the component of the blood that is rich in platelets and plasma.
Why PRP?
Because PRP is” liquid gold.”
PRP is the most natural solution to treat a variety of conditions including skin rejuvenation, soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, wound therapy as well as hair rejuvenation.
How is this procedure performed?
Your health care professional, either doctor or nurse will draw a vial of blood, in much the same way we draw a blood test. The vial of blood is then placed in a centrifuge which separates the different components of the whole blood into the platelets and plasma together, while the red and white cells migrate to the bottom of the tube separated by a gel. The platelet rich liquid sitting in the plasma is then extracted from the vial for therapeutic use. This is performed in a closed sterile system so that there is no contamination of blood.
The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes.

Why platelets?
When we centrifuge your blood, we separate the different blood cells and we can isolate the platelets and serum from the red and white cells. These platelets release a multitude of growth factors which have regenerative and healing properties.
These growth factors are responsible for the regeneration of new tissue, as well as healing ailing tissue. Some of these growth factors include:
IGF Insulin growth factor
VGEF vascular endothelial growth factor
FGF fibroblast growth factor
EGF epidermal growth factor
KGF keratinocyte growth factor
CTGF connective tissue growth factor
The names of these growth factors indicate which cellular component the growth factor is responsible for.

How is the treatment PRP Hair Restoration or PRP mesotherapy performed?
Treatment of PRP consists of multiple superficial injections in the form of microdroplets into the scalp. Once injected into the scalp, the platelets release the growth factors which help stimulate and regenerate the hair follicle.
As a result, hair quality including thickness and density is enhanced. This is particularly helpful in women and in men who are at the early stages of baldness.
Remember PRP cannot regenerate a nonexistent hair follicle – so if you are bald, it is too late to regrow hair with this procedure.
What noninvasive treatments exist to restore hair loss?
- Laser
- PRP scalp injections
- Vitamin and antioxidant injections
- Combination of the above
How can laser help?
Lasers of various energy levels have been used successfully to help both stimulate the hair follicle and improve the blood supply to the follicle.
Are noninvasive hair restoration treatments safe?
Yes. At the clinic we perform a combination of injections, otherwise known as mesotherapy or microneedling, in addition to the laser simultaneously in order to give the hair follicle a boost.
The 2 treatments work synergistically to both nourish the follicle and regenerate it.
How does the laser work?
Safe, painless, and FDA-approved, Fotona laser hair restoration therapy is a nonablative Erbium Yag laser technology that can be used for hair regrowth.
The Fotona Hair Restoration treatment, also known by its official name as “Hair Restart” kickstarts the hair cycle through controlled and gentle bulk-heating to stimulate dormant hair follicles. In other words, the laser gives the hair follicle a shock to wake up!
The energy stimulates tissue growth factors, strengthens the capillary vessels, and also in synergy with other treatments, facilitates the absorption of topical medicines.
The procedure is completed within 30 minutes with very little discomfort, and no need for anesthesia.
For optimal results, we recommend that patients combine Fotona Hair Restoration with Plasma Hair Restoration, spaced simultaneously or two weeks apart.
How many sessions are required?
The clinic suggests a series of 3- 4 treatments of both laser and PRP treatments spaced at monthly intervals. Like any other treatment, we recommend maintenance treatments in order to maintain results.
What is the maintenance protocol?
We recommend a combination of laser and PRP, or laser and vitamin injections every 3-4 months depending on the response of the initial treatments.
We sometimes prescribe compounded topical medicines in addition to the above treatments as part of the maintenance protocol.

Are the results permanent?
One must realize that there are many reasons for hair loss. Some factors such as genetics cannot be changed. Hormonal changes are often responsible for hair loss. At the clinic, we can do a full hormonal analysis and help treat hormonal changes that can be responsible for hair thinning and hair loss.
Other factors responsible for hair loss include age and stress. This, of course is a more complex issue to treat.
Remember that the reason for hair loss is multifactorial. Therefore, the treatments must be adapted accordingly, and therefore consists of a combination of treatments.
Is this treatment good for both men and women?
Absolutely. Our experience has been that women generally respond better than men, due to their naturally lower levels of testosterone. Men, however, respond better when they are treated in the earlier stages of balding or thinning hair.
Remember that we can only treat existing hair follicles.
Are there adverse effects?
The beauty of these treatments is that there are no adverse events. Since PRP is autologous and natural, you cannot suffer a rejection or an allergic reaction. There is minimal pain involved in the procedures and there is no down time.
